Decisions, decisions, decisions..... The video shoot is over. You've packed up the lights, mikes and cameras and now you're staring at massive hours of raw footage that you need to turn into something resembling a video presentation. It's Decision Time!Would you rather do all of your editing in a full-blown Edit Suite or would you prefer to have the additional option of complete portability to and from your Amiga without sacrificing quality? Decision Maker solves this little dilemma by allowing you to easily import, create, use and export Edit Decision Lists in both CMX and Grass Valley Formats right from the Amiga.
VERSION 2.0 IS HERE!!

Decision Maker now features Control-L (LANC) protocol, and the following NEW features:- New interface for Flyer users. For those not used to the Amiga Hi-resFlicker, the DM screen - while pretty - can drive you crazy from the jitter. We have redrawn the screen to look like the Flyer interface and we also used theirpalette. This drastically reduces the amount of flicker on the screen.
- Rename option now allows you to rename ALL files, just selected files,or just the path names. This is very handy if you move your files from onedrive to another. Now you can just change the path to match the project. Also works for subdirectories.
- Set Duration - The new button allows you to enter the duration of aclip. If you know the In point and know exactly how long you want the clipto be in length, this will automatically set your OUT point for you. Manualmode also lets you use this feature.
- Print EDL - You now have the option to send your EDL to your printer.
- DM now checks available space left on hard drive before digitizingbegins.
- Entries are highlighted as they are being recorded. This makes it easierto follow along with the recording.
- Moved Flyer Input & Compression Selection to menu. Usually you will always have these the same each time, so it saves a step in digitizing. This is also saved in the config file so DM remembers its last settings.
- Offsets are now saved with each EDL, so if you use various settings oneach project, the program will remember them when you load in that EDL.
- You can now set an In or Out point first then set the other before youadd it to the EDL.
- On Insert new tape, has option to eject current tape. This saves youfrom having to change some decks to manual control from remote then backagain.
- Checks for subdirectories on Flyer Drives. If not there it asks to create them.
- Calculate time code - This allows you to select entries in the EDL andtotal their time codes together.
- You can now select the color of the time code font on screen. This isedited in the config file.
- We also added an option in the menus for those who have a variable speeddeck. This allows you to record slow motion and such.
- Node number for VLAN users can now be changed. Since the VLAN canhandle up to 32 decks, this makes it handy if you need to access adifferent deck without having to disconnect & reconnect cables.
- Frame adjustment is also in there. Since the Flyer is not quite as acurate as Newtek would like us to believe, this allows you to tweak your system. If your In & Out points seem to be off a little, this allows you to put an offset in there to help resolve the problem.
- Function Keys act like Flyer Screen To Select Main Video Output.
- We have made a link with Ozware's great CoPilot Video software. Theyhave a routine called "Remove Waste", that removes unwanted or unneeded video from clips once the project has been created. When you use our redigitze option, it only records the clips that were actually used in a project but it digitizes the entire clip. Now if you have CoPilot, it allowsyou to save a new DM EDL list out that matches the cuts you made in your new project. This can greatly reduce the amount of hard drive space being used. If you do not own CoPilot, contact Michael Holten at 360-805-0148. If you do own it you might want to give them a call to get an update to the version that saves out the DM EDL list.
Decision Maker also supports the 422 protocol with an additional Addenda cable, and Visual Inspirations has just released a list of 422-compatible decks which have been thoroughly tested for compatability with Decision Maker 2.0. Although any 422-compatible deck should function with no trouble, the following is a list of decks which have been tested and work positively fer sure.

When used with The NewTek Flyer or the V-LAB Motion, Decision Maker (DM) takes the pain out of moving selected chunks of video to the hard disk. DM allows you to sit back and completely control your video deck directly from the computer screen - when you find useable footage simply add it to the Edit Decision List (EDL) with a few clicks of the mouse; when it's time to switch tapes, just tell DM the name of the next tape and keep on truckin'.When you're all done, click DIGITIZE and DM will read the EDL and then automagically start moving the desired video footage to the Hard Disk. Or you can save the EDL to disk to use later in a Dedicated Edit Facility. If you already have a pre-defined EDL in the common CMX or Grass Valley Formats it's even easier - just load it right into DM and start digitizing.
Another time-saving feature is the REDIGITIZE function. This allows you to take an edited and finished project you digitized at one resolution and REDIGITIZE at a higher resolution only that footage you eventually used in the finished project. Like all the other Fine Software Dry Goods from the Smoke-filled Labs down at Merlin's Software, Decision Maker is dedicated to saving you time and money. Decision Maker does this by providing a powerful tool not only for quickly and easily building Edit Decision Lists, but for using EDLs to help turn that raw footage into a polished and professional video presentation.
