reetings and welcome to the next phase of the Desktop Video Revolution: Magazine X! Since Video Toaster User Magazine sorta went belly-up recently, we in the DeskTop Video community found ourselves cut loose to drift once more - another downer in the Great Amiga Roller-Coaster Ride. With that, NewTek's recent rather careful attention to developing for the PC (with the Mac right behind), and the most recent distressing news from OS Guru Carl Sassenrath, Amiga DT videographers find ourselves feeling rather like an atheist with cancer at a faith-healing rally: You'd like to imagine that help will be forthcoming, but from where?
That's where we come in - there are plenty of videographers out there with work to do, and we intend to provide them with useful information to help get the job done - whatever the platform. As NewTek concentrates more on other platforms we will all no doubt be drawn there with them in the future, and we would like for this magazine to help smooth the way. After all, if VIScorp plans to fumble the Amiga football - the work will still be waiting, and we'll undoubtedly use whatever tool comes to hand.
Therefore, some of the biggest names in third-party development for the Toaster, Flyer, and Lightwave decided to get together and fill in the hole left in the information market by the demise of VTU by creating this Online Publication dedicated to YOU - the Toaster/Flyer/LightWave User.
We plan to offer useful information in the form of product reviews, tutorials, press releases, demos, gossip, tips 'n trix (they're not just for kids y'know), contests, and feature articles on a wide range of subjects relevant to the NewTek end-user community. In addition, this magazine will provide a handy way for us third-party developers to get out the good word on all of the new products and information coming your way in the days ahead. Furthermore, since NewTek has indicated that Java is going to be the new software inter-communication standard for third party applications, and Java is also quite handy to have around for web applications, we'll also be taking a closer look at this over time. This should tie in well with the fact that we are publishing this magazine online to begin with, so look forward to periodic web-related articles, info and tutorials.
Naturally we would also like for this magazine to include plenty of feedback from you, so please be sure to drop us a note and tell us what's on your mind so that we can serve you better. If there's something you want to see here - please tell us. Feel free to also pass on any juicy news or info you might come across as well. In addition, we are also soliciting submissions for our new Image Gallery, so fire up your machine and create something cool that we can display in the gallery to the envy of the DTV Community.
And that, in a nutshell is what we are all about. We're here, and we're here to serve you. So without further ado, let's move on to this month's feature story.
